restore android

Now our phones are an integral part of our lives, everything that is important to us is recorded there. This can range from simple photos, to working files, our social networks or even our contacts. However, you may have to restore Android from your PC for various reasons. This may be due simply to forgetting the unlock code, but also, if it does not respond, that it remains frozen. Or, if you have it stolen or lose it, you will be happy to be able to locate it. Where otherwise, erase all your private data. It is therefore important to make regular backups of your data on your PC, to consider the option of restoring Android without having significant losses.

In fact, once reset, your device will be like when it left the factory: the internal memory will be empty, no more data will be written.

Here are the explanations on how to save your data on your PC, then how to reset it, and finally how to locate it. It is essential to follow the steps as in the step-by-step below, so as not to lose data if you later want to restore Android using your PC.

Save your data

As explained above, once the Android system is restored, it will be as it was when it left the factory, blank of everything. It is therefore very important to take the time to back up your data.

To back up your data and restore Android, many software programs exist. We recommend the dr.fone software which is very easy to use. We will detail the steps to perform to make this backup.

Install dr.fone software

To install the software on your PC, go to this website, then click on download at the top left, and finally let yourself be guided for its installation.

Connect your Android device to your PC

Then connect your Android device to your PC using your cable, and click "Backup and Restore". Your device will be automatically detected.

Follow the steps of the program

Then click on the “Save” option. The software will then show you the steps to perform on your phone to authorize this backup. You just need to validate options in the settings of your Android device. Then once these authorizations are validated, the program asks you to select what you want to save in the 3 main categories:

  • general information: contacts, call history, messages, calendar
  • media and photos: photos, videos and music
  • applications

Once the folders have been selected, click on “save”, and in a few minutes, the transfer is done. This software, very easy to use, allows you to control more than 8000 Android devices.

Reset Android using ADK

Once your data is backed up, you will need to perform a hard reset before restoring Android to your device. To do this, you will first have to delete all the data using your PC.

Install ADK software

ADK software is installed on PCs using Windows, Linux or Mac. You must first download it by following thislien, then install it.

Allow USB debugging

Then like with dr.fone, you need to allow USB debugging on your Android device. This is done either in Open Settings> Developer options> USB debugging, or by going to Settings> General> About phone> Common> Software information, and clicking on it 5 to 8 times (your device will indicated).

Follow the steps

On the software, select Platform-tools and USB drivers.

Connect your Android device to your PC.

In Windows and go to the command prompt at cd C: \ Users \ Your user name \ AppData \ Local \ Android \ android-sdk \ platform-tools

Type adb reboot recovery. The device then reboots and the recovery menu should appear.

Now the device can be disconnected. You can then delete the password, or simply reset the device.

Your Android device is thus reset using your PC.

Restore Android using your PC

If you lose or your phone is stolen, you are going to want to locate it, and if you are unable to do so, you will certainly want to erase its data. Remotely, whatever option you choose, this is possible thanks to your PC.

To allow this manipulation, you must first make sure that the Android Device Manager works with the following configuration:

  • device administrator settings must be enabled (Settings> Security> Device administrators)
  • device location and internet must be on
  • the device must be connected to a Google account (even without a SIM card)
  • the device must be switched on

Use Google to locate it

Then, you must proceed to the following steps in order to use ADM (Android Device Manager) or locate the Android device:

  • On the website of your device manager, or by launching Google ADM, search for "find my phone"
  • if you think your device is nearby, click on "ringtone" when the search is effective
  • you can also click on "recover", but despite the choice of 4 options, resetting the device will not be possible in this way

Use Android Device Manager (ADM) to locate it

To use Android Device Manager to locate your Android device, you need to do the following steps.

You must first log into your website account. Two options are then offered: “Ringtone” and “Activate locking and erasing”.
If you want to trigger the alarm and notify the location, you must click on "RING TONE".
If you wish to give access to our data to someone else, you must click on "Activate locking and erasure". You will then have to choose between “password lock” or “erase data completely”.

Then to reset your device, click on "Erase data completely". Once this option is selected, the interface takes over and ends the action.

Your Android device is successfully reset.

Whichever method you choose, resetting your device will erase all your data. Its memory is blank, just like when it left the factory. Thanks to the dr.fone software, when you restore Android, you can find all your data: contacts, sms, call history, videos, photos, music and your applications. It is therefore important to carry out this backup regularly. So you will find your most recent data when you need to restore Android, thanks to your PC.
